IATA Macao 2026: 5 reasons airlines cannot skip 28 to 29 October

By on September 29, 2026 | Events

IATA said this week that its joint World Financial Symposium and World Passenger Symposium will be held on 28 and 29 October 2026 in Macao (SAR), China, at the Galaxy International Convention Center, an event already being called IATA Macao 2026. The two symposiums run as one event, across two days and one venue.

The theme for the 2026 edition is “From Vision to Value: The Next Era of Air Travel – Connecting Retail, Experience, and Financial Performance”. IATA’s event page records 1,250 delegates at the 2025 edition in Istanbul, and puts the usual attendee mix at more than 75 airlines, more than 200 IATA Strategic Partners and more than 40 sponsors and exhibitors.

The published programme splits the two days into three parallel tracks: Retail and Distribution (Offers and Orders), Financial Services and Processing, and Passenger Experience and Accessibility. An airline commercial, distribution, payments or digital identity lead can read that structure and know which room to sit in.

Here is why you should not miss this one.

1. More than 75 airlines sit on the delegate list

IATA puts the usual mix at more than 75 airlines. For a vendor, that is a quarter of prospecting compressed into two days, and the airline people in the room are the commercial, financial and passenger experience teams rather than procurement alone. For an airline, it is the shortest way to compare notes with 75 peers on the same two questions: what is selling, and what is it costing to process.

2. More than 200 IATA Strategic Partners are in the same building

The attendee mix also runs to more than 200 IATA Strategic Partners and more than 40 sponsors and exhibitors. That is the supply side of airline retailing, payments and passenger processing standing in one hall for two days. For an airline team carrying a 2027 build list, it is a way to see the whole field before the procurement cycle starts.

3. Three parallel tracks, each with an owner in the business

Track 1 is Retail and Distribution (Offers and Orders). Track 2 is Financial Services and Processing. Track 3 is Passenger Experience and Accessibility. Sending one person means picking one track and missing two, so the airlines that get the most out of the two days send three and compare at the end of each day.

4. The theme puts retailing and financial performance in the same sentence

“From Vision to Value: The Next Era of Air Travel – Connecting Retail, Experience, and Financial Performance” is the 2026 framing, and the track list follows it: what is sold, how the money moves, what the passenger gets. Offers and Orders programmes usually stall at the point where commercial and finance stop talking to each other. This agenda is built as though that is the problem.

5. IATA Macao 2026: two days, one venue, an October slot in Asia

The event runs on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October at the Galaxy International Convention Center. Two days at one address means a two-night trip for most teams, and Macao is a direct hop for people travelling from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taipei and Southeast Asia.

For organisers

The delegate mix is the pitch: more than 75 airlines, more than 200 IATA Strategic Partners and more than 40 sponsors and exhibitors, with 1,250 people through the doors at the 2025 Istanbul edition. An event team building an aviation programme in Asia has both its speaker shortlist and its sponsor list sitting in that one room.

Key takeaway

Airline commercial, payments and passenger experience leads should treat this as a three-person trip rather than a one-person one, with a body in each track on both days. We read the 1,250 delegates in Istanbul and the 200 plus strategic partners as the reason to arrive with a meeting list rather than a session list. Vendors should work the Financial Services and Processing track, where the buyers already know what payments cost them.
