HICAP 2026 Singapore, the Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific, opens on Tuesday 20 October 2026 and runs to Thursday 22 October. The three-day programme is built for the people who decide where hotel capital goes in the region, and it is 19 days away.

The venue is the Fairmont Singapore and Swissotel The Stamford, both at 2 Stamford Road, Singapore 178882, according to Greenberg Traurig’s event listing. Hospitality Net’s event listing says the audience covers investors, owners, developers, hotel chains, investment bankers, lenders, advisors, architects and government tourism officials.

For a travel-tech vendor, that is a room full of buyers and the people who fund them. Here is why you should not miss it.

1. Day one sets the numbers for the year

The opening day, 20 October, is plenary only. According to HICAP’s programme page, the four sessions are Economic Outlook; The Numbers, covering hotel performance, markets and outlook; Travel & Tourism Outlook; and Views from the Boardroom, Round One. Operators and owners who plan 2027 budgets will hear the market read in a single morning.

2. Three regional sessions at HICAP 2026 cover the markets investors ask about

The programme includes Spotlight on India, Japan Investment Insights and Greater China Investment Insights. Greenberg Traurig’s Joel Rothstein moderates the China session. Elias Hayek sits on the panel Acquisitions: Hospitality vs. Real Estate, which asks whether the yield premium is still there. Those two panel titles frame the question every owner is asking about buying hotels against buying property.

3. A technology session written for owners

The technology slot is Tech Edit LIVE: 10 Trends in 10 Minutes, The Owners & Investors Brief. The format is ten trends, ten minutes, aimed at the people who sign off technology spend rather than the people who run the systems. Vendors selling property management, revenue or guest-experience tools to owners get a clear view of what that audience is being told to look at.

4. The awards show which deals set the pace

HICAP presents six awards: Lifetime Achievement, the Reggie Shiu Development of the Year, the Sustainable Hotel Awards, Single Asset Transaction of the Year, Merger & Acquisition of the Year and the Rising Star Award Asia Pacific. The two transaction awards name the deals the industry itself rates highest in the year. The development and sustainability awards show what kind of property wins recognition.

5. A stage for the next generation of dealmakers

The Rising Star Award Asia Pacific is run by ISHC and HICAP. As Hotel Online reported, it is for people aged 35 or under with at least five years in hotel development or investment. Nominations closed on 14 August 2026, and the 2025 winner was Karan Mahesh. The award shows who is moving up in Asia-Pacific hotel investment, and who a vendor or adviser should meet early.

For organisers

HICAP gives technology ten minutes per trend in a programme otherwise built around capital, markets and law. Events that serve owners and investors can add a travel-tech and AI view from India, where hotel groups and platforms are building at speed, and the Spotlight on India session already shows the audience is looking there.

Key takeaway

Hotel owners and investors should be in Singapore for all three days, and day one on 20 October is the one not to miss for the market outlook. Travel-tech founders selling to hotel owners should arrive for the Tech Edit LIVE session and stay for the regional panels. We would plan meetings around the India, Japan and China sessions, because that is where the buyers will be gathered.

Alibaba’s map app Amap and the Singapore Tourism Board launched Singapore Street Stars on 18 September, a set of seven themed rankings covering 104 attractions, neighbourhoods and lifestyle places across the city state, the two partners announced in a joint release.

The lists sit inside the Amap app and follow the Street Stars format Amap introduced a year ago. The seven themes are Photo-Perfect Spots, Where Family Fun Begins, After-Dark Adventures, Next-Gen Crowd Favourites, Nature’s Reset, Curated Finds, and Local Life, Real Finds. Gardens by the Bay, Merlion Park and Sentosa Island appear alongside Joo Chiat Road, Haji Lane, Maxwell Food Centre and Tiong Bahru Market, so the rankings mix the postcard sights with the hawker centres and side streets that repeat visitors look for.

Photo by Khoi Pham on Pexels

What Amap Street Stars does

Amap launched Street Stars on 10 September 2025 as an AI ranking for the app’s 170 million daily active users, covering more than 300 cities and 1.6 million local businesses at launch, Alibaba Group said at the time. The ranking synthesises navigation patterns and user reviews rather than editorial picks. It also uses user-consented trust metrics such as credit ratings to counter biased reviews and rating manipulation. Amap CEO Guo Ning put it in one line: “Authenticity is the ranking’s core principle.”

Amap backed the original launch with over 1 billion RMB in subsidies for consumer transport and offline spending, and said it expected the lists to bring an additional 10 million daily customers to listed businesses. The Singapore release names no subsidy and no fee for the businesses listed. The lists are live in the app now.

Who it hits

The audience is the Chinese traveller planning or already on a Singapore trip. Amap platform data show the average daily number of users searching Singapore-related content in the 2026 summer season rose 52.3% against June 2026. Attraction searches rose 91.2%, shopping searches 87.4% and dining searches 70.9%. Those are searches on a map app, which means they happen close to the point of decision: which hawker centre tonight, which mall this afternoon.

For a hotel, attraction, restaurant or retailer in Singapore, that makes a Chinese map app a discovery channel with its own ranking algorithm. TechNode Global, reporting the launch, noted that participating restaurants, hotels and retailers gain another route into the travel behaviour of Chinese visitors using Amap before and during trips. A DMC or OTA selling Singapore to mainland clients now has a third-party list its customers will see whether or not the operator’s own itinerary agrees with it.

The timing matters. Singapore Tourism Board’s August 2026 arrivals figures show 1.61 million international visitors, down 0.3% year on year, and January to August arrivals of 11.43 million, down 1.7%. Mainland China was the largest source market in August at 435,440 arrivals, up 9.4%, with an average stay of 3.71 days, according to Travel And Tour World. The one market growing is the one this ranking serves.

What the partners say

Andrew Phua, Chief Representative and Executive Director, Greater China, at the Singapore Tourism Board, said the rankings “rely on actual users’ preferences reflecting authentic recommendations”. Liu Li, General Manager of Amap’s Information Platform Business, said Amap “will continue to explore localised rankings and services suited to different countries and regions”, which reads as a signal that Singapore is the first stop rather than the only one.

What came before

Before 18 September, Amap’s ranking covered businesses in the 300-plus cities of its original launch, and a Singapore business had no entry in it. Street Stars is also different from a listing a business writes itself. Navigation data and reviews from Amap users decide the rank, and the trust layer built to counter rating manipulation filters what counts. That leaves a Singapore operator with one lever: the experience visitors have and what they say about it afterwards.

Key takeaway

Any Singapore hotel, attraction, restaurant or retailer that counts on mainland China arrivals should open Amap this week, find whether it appears in one of the seven lists, and read what Amap users say about it, because that content now shapes the choices of the largest source market. OTAs and DMCs selling Singapore to China should check their itineraries against the 104 picks before a client does. Tourism boards elsewhere in APAC can wait, but we would read Liu Li’s line about other countries and regions as notice that Amap will come calling.

ITB Asia 2026 opens at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, on 21 October and runs to 23 October, the show’s 19th year under organiser Messe Berlin Asia Pacific with the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau behind it. MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia 2026 share the halls and the badge, which puts leisure, meetings, corporate and travel-technology buying under one roof for three days. For 2026 the organiser forecasts 18,000 participants, a buyer count above 1,500, 1,000-plus exhibitors and a speaker list past 160.

Last year the floor reached five halls on two levels, two more than in 2024, and 96 tourism boards and convention bureaus took stands. The Singapore Tourism Board has committed to the show until 2028, and the 2027 and 2028 editions are already fixed for 20 to 22 October and 25 to 27 October. This year’s theme is “Experiences in Motion: Human-Centred Design in Travel & Tourism”. “The travel industry is undergoing a profound transformation driven by evolving traveller expectations and rapid technological advancement,” said Darren Seah, Executive Director of Messe Berlin Asia Pacific.

Photo by Pavel Kuznetsov on Pexels

Here is why a hotel, OTA or airline leader books the trip now rather than in October.

1. 60,000 business appointments were made here last year

The 2025 edition set a 2025 record of more than 60,000 business appointments, 35% more than in 2024, out of 18,000 attendees and a buyer count above 1,500, itself 7% higher than the year before. Seah’s line on it: “ITB Asia remains to be the meeting point where the world connects with Asia.” A three-day pass carries up to 33 appointment slots with exhibitors, so a buyer who registers early and fills the diary walks in with a full first day.

2. Travel Tech Asia 2026 adds a hosted buyer programme for CIOs and CTOs

Travel Tech Asia launches a hosted buyer programme in 2026, and it is built for the technology side of the house: roughly 100 CIOs, CTOs and procurement heads drawn from hotel companies, travel agencies and DMCs, TravelMole reported. The exhibitor list already carries Agoda, Trip.com, SiteMinder, RateHawk, DerbySoft, Juniper Travel Technology, Rakuten Travel Xchange, Flywire, Airalo, DragonPass, GoGlobal Travel and China Mobile International. The Hotel Tech cluster has grown for 2026 and now spans reservation systems, CRM, AI tools, design and sustainability, with the hall open from 09:30 to 18:00 each day.

3. Booking.com, KAYAK and Kiwi.com are on the Travel Tech Asia stage

The Travel Tech Asia speaker list so far runs to Laura Houldsworth of Booking.com, Masahiro Yamashita of KAYAK, Oliver Dlouhy of Kiwi.com, Brett Henry of WebBeds, Mehereen Agha Suharwardy of Go City and Michele Ruberl of Travel Token Marketplace. “Technology has become a key driver of innovation and growth across the travel industry,” Seah said. Across the three shows the conference adds up to 170-plus speakers and 4,500-plus minutes of sessions, and any exhibitor, buyer or visitor badge covers all of it. One exhibitor is worth a stop for its newest product: Agoda put an AI assistant that builds a bookable trip from a rough idea into limited public beta on 15 September 2026, according to its press release.

4. A Tripadvisor-built Experience Pavilion debuts

The Experience Pavilion comes out of a memorandum of understanding that Messe Berlin Asia Pacific and Tripadvisor Singapore Pte Ltd signed on 15 October 2025, day one of last year’s show, with Tripadvisor shaping the pavilion’s theme and its content. “We saw over 11 million experiences booked on our sites (including Viator) in the first half of 2025, which is a 15% YoY increase,” said Scott Wegener, Director of Sales (APAC) at Tripadvisor. Around the pavilion sit three Experience Zones, one each for gastronomy, wellness and adventure tourism, and 2026 is the first year the show runs curated guided tours of the floor.

5. The early bird pass is SGD 50 cheaper

The three-day pass to all three shows is SGD 190 early bird, rising to SGD 240 at the listed rate, with 9% GST on top of either. The same pass holds the 33 appointment slots and the full conference programme. Registration is open on the ITB Asia site.

For organisers and prospective speakers: the ITB Asia conference takes proposals through a public “Register as a Speaker” route on its site, separate from exhibitor, buyer and visitor registration.

Key takeaway

A hotel or OTA leader holding a Q4 travel budget should book the SGD 190 pass now and keep all three days, with day one on the Travel Tech Asia stage and the Hotel Tech cluster. Technology buyers at hotel groups, agencies and DMCs should apply for the hosted buyer programme rather than pay their own way. We would leave the Tripadvisor pavilion and the Experience Zones for day two, once the appointment diary has settled.

Seek Sophie, the Singapore experiences marketplace, listed its first China supply on 14 September 2026: 25 community-led experiences, all in Yunnan province. The listing came after roughly a year of sustained requests from its community and three multi-week scouting trips to the province, TTG Asia reported. Nothing went live until the team had walked the routes itself.

That sequence is the company’s method, not a one-off. Seek Sophie describes itself on its own site as “a marketplace, but a highly curated one”, with the founders going on the ground to test experiences and screening each one for its benefit to local communities and wildlife. The team, the site says, is “scattered across Asia”.

How it started

Co-founder and CEO Jacinta Lim was previously an executive manager at the insurtech MicroEnsure. Co-founder Lina Gedvilaite was an investment analyst at the International Finance Corporation in Ukraine. The two met during an MBA in 2016 and, as Vulcan Post reported, launched the platform with about 260 listings across Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Malaysia. Every listing had been personally tested by the founders, who spent at least two months in each country sourcing supply before the platform opened.

What the Yunnan set looks like

The 25 experiences are built around local hosts rather than a coach itinerary. There is a Tiger Leaping Gorge route led by Naxi guide Nong Bu, a Yunnan speciality coffee experience, and a three-day, two-night Tea Horse Road caravan in Shangri-La with Tibetan guides and glamping. The wildlife tracking is run by former hunters who now work as forest rangers protecting the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey.

Lim frames the curation as a position on capacity rather than a marketing line. “For us, preventing overtourism is really about shaping tourism before a place gets overwhelmed,” she told TTG Asia. A year of demand, three scouting trips and 25 listings is a slow pace by marketplace standards. The company lists what its founders have tested, not what a supplier uploads.

The MICE corporate line

The consumer marketplace is not the only revenue line. Seek Sophie’s corporate business already serves Meta, Google, Disney and ByteDance, and the company is now pushing into international corporate events, TTGmice reported in July. Inbound corporate groups are estimated at 10 to 20 per cent of its overall corporate business.

Lim’s pitch to planners is direct. “Singapore only feels boring if you experience it in the usual corporate way: convention centre, mall, hotel restaurant,” she said. The heritage-led formats the company runs for consumers are being packaged for teams and incentive groups, which gives the curation work a second buyer.

The next twelve months

China is the expansion market. Lim named Sichuan, Chongqing and Xinjiang as the next markets after Yunnan, and the company’s record points to the same treatment for each: sustained demand from the community first, multiple scouting trips second, listings last. On the corporate side, the push into international events puts Seek Sophie in front of the MICE buyers who bring groups into Singapore and increasingly want the same curation when the group travels out.

Travel founders with a story of their own can share it with TravHQ through the site’s contact page.

Key takeaway

Volume marketplaces compete on listing count, and Seek Sophie is betting on the opposite. Its China entry shows what that bet costs: a year of waiting and three scouting trips for 25 listings. For OTAs and DMCs, the lesson is that curated supply in a new market is a scouting budget before it is a catalogue, and for tourism boards in Sichuan, Chongqing and Xinjiang, a curator that screens for community benefit is worth courting before the coaches arrive. We would watch the corporate line most closely, because it is the part of the business that turns curation into repeat orders.

The much awaited WiT Singapore 2026 runs from Wednesday 30 September to Friday 2 October under the theme “21: A New Beginning”. Web in Travel, the organiser, frames the three days around travel’s new beginning in the generative AI era, and describes an industry at a point where “everyone is restarting from the same line”.

The event draws hundreds of senior decision makers, founders, investors and future leaders from more than 30 countries. They come from airlines, OTAs, hospitality, tourism boards, tech disruptors, payment platforms and social commerce, the mix that makes WiT Singapore the region’s leading travel tech conference and sets distribution terms across the region. For an Indian or Southeast Asian operator weighing the flight two weeks out, the question is which of the three days delivers that room, and what to carry home from it.

Photo: WiT Singapore

The main programme is built as seven acts, set out on the programme page: Act 1 The Asia Moment, Act 2 The Provocation Moment, Act 3 The Build, Act 4 The Reckoning, Act 5 Rewriting the Future: Lenses of Experience, Act 6 The Growth Map, and Act 7 The Wager: Placing Bets on What’s Next. Read in order, the titles carry one argument. Asia comes first. A provocation follows. Then what gets built, what gets counted, how the traveller’s experience is rewritten, where growth sits, and, last, where the money goes. The order places the build and the reckoning before the bets, which is where attention and capital sit as the generative AI cycle matures.

Which day of the WiT Singapore programme earns the flight

Day one, Wednesday 30 September, is mostly by invitation. Next Generation Leaders, powered by Booking.com, runs from 10.00am to 1.00pm, invite only. The WiT Bootcamp follows from 1.00pm to 4.00pm and features the winners of the WiT Phocuswright Global Startup Pitch Seedup. The Global Travel Tech Thinktank, run by WiT with Phocuswright and PhocusWire, takes 5.00pm to 7.00pm, again invite only. Opening cocktails hosted by Pan Pacific Singapore start at 7.00pm. Of the four sessions, only the Bootcamp and the cocktails carry no invitation label on the published schedule, so day one is a founder’s afternoon and a networking evening rather than a full conference day.

Day two, Thursday 1 October, closes with the WiT Phocuswright Global Startup Pitch Scaleup winners, The Great WiT Debate, and a closing party that carries the WiT For Good charity auction. The Scaleup final and the debate are the two sessions in which the room takes a position in public. If the trip is limited to one day, day two is the day to hold. Friday 2 October completes the three days, and the running order sits on the programme page.

What to walk out with is set by the mix in the room. Airlines, OTAs, hospitality, tourism boards, payment platforms and social commerce are all listed as delegate groups, so the practical output is a short list of distribution and payments counterparts met in person, a first look at the Seedup and Scaleup winners in front of the investors who attend, and a position on the debate to take back to the team.

Our pick: The formats at WiT Singapore that take outside voices are the WiT Bootcamp on day one and the WiT Phocuswright Global Startup Pitch, with Seedup winners on day one and Scaleup winners on day two. Founders with a pitch and operators with a view on the debate have those two doors, and the published contacts are the place to start.

Key takeaway

We are running this preview two weeks out because budget and travel decisions for Singapore are being made now. If one day is all the calendar allows, book Thursday 1 October for the Scaleup final and the debate, and add the Wednesday evening cocktails if they fit. Founders should treat the Bootcamp as the open door on day one. Hotel, airline and OTA leaders should arrive with a short list of the payments and distribution names they want to meet, because at WiT the room is the product. If you’re around, do let us know about the sessions that stole the spotlight for you.

Asia is definitely set to take the travel industry by the horns. Tourist spending in the Asia-Pacific region is on a rising spree and continues to outgrow other regions in the world. In 2017, Asia-Pacific recorded a six percent growth, with 324 million international tourist arrivals. The growth is also expected to continue in 2018 at a rate of five to six percent.

Driven by a robust economic upswing and increased demand, many startups in the region are also making waves in the travel industry. With tech-driven differentiation, these startups, both big and small, are leveraging the boom in many different ways. Here is our top pick of some of the coolest startups.

1. Hotelogix, India

Many hotel groups in India run server-based management systems at their properties and lack centralized control at the corporate level. But not Hotelogix. With a mission to revamp the way the hospitality industry uses technology, Hotelogix aims at assisting hoteliers conquer the ever-changing hospitality landscape. What sets it apart from other PMS systems is the seamless flow of data. Cloud enables collecting data from multiple sources in real-time, giving you the ability to analyse this data in the moment. Recently, Hotelogix was recognized as a ‘FrontRunner’ in the hotel management category for enterprise vendors by Software Advice, powered by Gartner methodology.

2. RedDoorz, Indonesia

Launched in 2015, RedDoorz is a network of budget branded lodging, with more than 500 properties primarily in Indonesia, and also in Singapore and the Philippines. This year, it closed $11 million in new funding to expand its network of budget hotels and guest houses throughout the Southeast Asian region. As it stands in Indonesia, where RedDoorz has been the longest and where it has most of its properties — it claims to offer 3,000 rooms across 16 cities — the vast majority of customers are local and using the company’s Android app, rather than the tourist crowd. Some booking platforms are trying to creatively improvise their services by innovating around evolving customer needs, such as speed of booking, that RedDoorz particularly focuses on. The RedDoorz website is optimised to ensure that the booking form is displayed prominently on the landing page, which keeps guests focused on completing their booking.

3. Travelog, Malaysia

Built to be a one-stop shop for travellers in Malaysia and abroad, Travelog aims to make the process of researching and planning for itineraries easier for every traveller type.
Through the startup’s website, users are not only able to scan through an extensive list of travel activities, tour packages, and accommodations, but also avail weekly flash sales of up to 70 percent off booking prices. To make things even easier, users are not charged anything for the use of Travelog’s services. Within just one platform, travellers have access to a well-curated showcase of the startup’s hand-picked travel experiences.

4. GOeureka, Singapore

Blockchain is emerging as a strong technology tool that is all set to change the status quo of the travel industry. Banking on its subsequent adoption and tremendous growth potential, Singapore-based GOeureka is planning to launch their online hotel booking platform at the end of 2018, which will be utilising blockchain technology to deliver an industry-first solution that will disrupt the current OTA business model. This next-gen solution that will shape the future of online booking, will be built on top of the Ethereum platform, an open software platform based on blockchain technology that enables developers to build and deploy decentralized applications. GOeureka will challenge the status quo by removing hefty OTA commissions paid by hotels.

5. Concierge.io, Vietnam

Concierge.io, with its decentralized travel booking marketplace that utilizes the NEO blockchain, reduces third party interaction, whilst pledging a transparent operational process. The platform connects consumers directly with vendors to discuss their deals with no fee or commission associated. The Concierge.io marketplace UI (User-Interface) and UE (User-Experience) have been designed to give as much accessibility to both the vendor and consumers. The platform utilizes specific API’s to enable speed of transferring listings from other platforms providing maximum efficiency. Traditional payment methods like Visa/Master Card will be an option with top cryptocurrencies also added in due course.

STB (Singapore Tourism Board) and the Economic Development Board (EDB) have collaborated to launch a new campaign and give tourism in Singapore a fresh perspective. The tagline, “Passion Made Possible” aims to establish Singapore as a unique hub for not just tourism but also businesses.

The campaign leverages on local personalities to tell stories of passion via series of videos. Some of the videos which span for more than 4 minutes on an average feature wildlife consultant such as Subaraj Rajathurai, Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant – Candlenut’s Malcolm Lee and Sneaker Customiser – SBTG’s Mark Ong. These personalities talk about their stories and passion in wildlife, cooking and design etc.

While the video has been released this week, STB has plans to market it via leading media-platforms, social networks such as WeChat etc. From the initial response on VisitSingapore FB page, it does appear that the video is being appreciated by all fans.
Today, 9th August, Wednesday is the National Day of Singapore and if you are enjoying the celebrations here is one video by Singapore Airlines that beautifully portrays the story of the iconic landmarks in the country. While the video essentially talks about in-flight safety instructions, it is a result of bilateral agreement between the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the national carrier.

The refreshing video is a visual walkthrough by the Singapore Girl, an in flight attendant at Singapore Airlines. The video is shot in outdoor locations such as Boat Quay, Haji Lane, Adventure Cove Waterpark, Henderson waves etc. Since it’s release on 7th August 2017, the video has generated a little under 100,000 views so far. While the video is engaging due to its unique story-telling experience and the community feedback has been largely positive, there were some mixed reactions as well. Some of the fans, found the video to be a little too slow in-terms of pace.

According to Mr. Cambell Wilson, the SIA senior vice president sales and marketing, “Our new safety video provides a more captivating way of effectively presenting safety information to our customers as compared to the more conventional approach that we have taken up to now”.

Have you watched the new In-Flight Safety video yet? What do you think about it.
